Our Verdict
The Capilene Cool Ultra Hoody feels noticeably lighter and more breathable than most long-sleeved hiking layers, and I think Patagonia has judged the fabric well here. At 103g (Medium), the textured knit sits slightly off the skin, helping it feel less clingy when working hard and drying remarkably quickly afterwards.
The hood design is particularly well thought out. The neck button helps keep it secure in windy conditions, while the thumb loops stop sleeves from creeping up when layering. For fast summer hiking and high-output use, it works exceptionally well.
