Our warmest performance fleece mid-layer. The Caldus XT is designed to offer pinnacle thermoregulation during the coldest mountain conditions. High pile fleece fabric draws moisture away from the body and high levels of air permeability reduces overheating during more dynamic activity levels. An additional chest pocket adds enhanced functionality to keep essential gear close to hand.
Our Verdict
The Caldus XT Jacket 2.0 weighs 427g (Medium), and the high-loft THERMO HL fleece gives it a serious amount of warmth without losing the breathability you want from a midlayer. The open construction lets heat and moisture escape while you are moving, while the stretch keeps it comfortable under a shell.
It looks quite casual at first glance, but I think the pocket layout gives it a much more technical feel. The two hand pockets and zipped chest pocket stay accessible around a pack or harness, and the Regular fit leaves enough room for layering.
It is bulky and not especially wind-resistant, but paired with a wind shell it makes a lot of sense for cold, active days in the hills.
