Our Verdict
The Caldbeck Pant feels designed for long days on the move, where comfort and breathability matter more than outright ruggedness. At 274g (Medium), the four-way stretch fabric keeps the trousers feeling light and unrestricted, while the articulated cut and gusseted crotch noticeably improve mobility on steeper terrain.
I also like the restrained pocket layout. The zipped thigh pocket sits high enough to remain usable under a hip belt, and the simple waist adjustment keeps bulk to a minimum.
Weather resistance is enough for light showers and damp grass, though these are still firmly lightweight walking trousers rather than a mountain softshell. They work best for spring-to-autumn hiking and fast-paced hillwalking.
