Real Turmat Reindeer Stew Review - Trek Scotland

‘Reindeer with potato, mushroom, and lingonberries. Hunter’s favourite. Reindeer meat, mushrooms and berries all contributes to the unmistakable gamy flavour.’

Our Verdict
Reindeer stew is another meal idea from Real Turmat which sets itself aside from the norm regarding dehydrated choices typically found in the UK. Packed full of meat, a light peppery stock, with the sharpness coming through from the lingonberries makes for a very tasty meal. The recommended water level did make the stew a little thin and we would add slightly less next time to enhance the flavour. Although described as ‘gamy’ this is very subtle and unless labelled as reindeer you could be easily take this as being strips of beef. This is not to say we didn’t enjoy the meal, sat amongst a wooded area in Glen Feshie of the Cairngorms, (home to the only free ranging Reindeer herd in Britain), the Reindeer stew complimented the area well and we could see this being a great hit on a cold winters evening snow holing amongst the mountains above.
