Our Gruezi Sleeping Bag Range Explained
May 13, 2025

So far there have been two natural insulations, each of which is outstanding. There is the light and also excellently insulating down, and the moisture-resistant and climate-regulating wool. The disadvantages of down, it is very sensitive to moisture and cannot compensate for the climate, the disadvantage of wool is that it is very heavy.
But that has now changed with DownWool. DownWool combines the best properties of down and wool. DownWool is light, highly insulating, less sensitive to moisture and has climate-regulating properties.
What is DownWool Exactly?
DownWool is the combination of down and wool. Wool is shot into the core of the down. This anchors the wool to the down. This makes the insulation washable. Wool is more greedy for moisture than down, which relieves the down when it gets wetter. Wool has a structure with many small capillaries in which it can absorb and release more than 30% of its own weight in moisture.
When it gets cold, wool draws moisture away, leaving you dry and warm. But when it gets too warm, wool releases the moisture again and there is a slightly cooling effect.
DownWool Temperature Regulation
Wool garments offer superior insulation and breathability compared to other fabrics of similar structure and weight. This insulation capacity has made wool synonymous with warmth, yet because wool is an active fibre, it also has a cooling effect on the wearer.
Sweating generally serves the body’s temperature regulation and has as a natural cooling effect on the skin’s surface. Potentially, clothing can obstruct this process, causing overheating.
However, sheep wool’s process of vapour transfer results in cooler muscles that are able to work at higher intensity levels, making it a far superior material compared to other fibres.

Biopod DownWool Extreme Light Sleeping Bag
Weighs: 509g (Reg) | Comfort Limit: 7°C | FP: 650+ | FWt 225+

The Grüezi Bag Biopod DownWool Extreme Light Sleeping Bag stands out with its innovative DownWool insulation that combines the excellent warmth and low weight of down with the moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties of wool. This patented blend allows the sleeping bag to maintain a comfortable microclimate, preventing you from getting too hot or too cold.
One of the key advantages is that the wool helps keep the down drier and fluffier, preserving its insulating ability even when wet conditions that would normally cause down to clump and lose warmth. The wool can absorb moisture and release it, while still retaining insulation. This natural moisture management eliminates the need for chemical treatments on the down.
The sleeping bag features smart design elements like an adjustable hood, interior pocket, two-way auto-locking zipper, and foot ventilation system. The outer shell is made from a soft, downproof recycled nylon treated to be water-repellent without toxic PFCs.

The Grüezi Bag Biopod DownWool Ice Sleeping Bag is a versatile and innovative bag designed for camping, trekking, and mountaineering in cold weather. Its DownWool insulation, a blend of down and wool, provides superior warmth when dry and effectively regulate temperature. This insulation prevents the down from clumping when moisture is present, thus maintaining its insulating capabilities.
The down offers exceptional warmth, while the wool wicks moisture away from the down clusters, preventing them from collapsing and losing loft. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in vapour without feeling wet, keeping the down drier for sustained insulation, especially in humid environments or when using a bivi bag.
Grüezi bags are over stuffed with down, they also provide more internal space than traditional bags, allowing for comfortable movement and a cosy, warm experience.
At the same time, wool has inherent temperature-regulating abilities, as anyone who uses merino wool can attest. It can release absorbed moisture to prevent overheating and evaporative cooling of the body. This more comprehensive, comfortable temperature range makes you less likely to wake up shivering or sweating.
Beyond the insulation, the Grüezi bag® is meticulously designed. The adjustable contoured hood and collar prevent heat loss. An anti-snag zipper allows easy opening from inside or out, and the zip can be opened from the bottom as well as the top, which helps with ventilation. The pre-formed foot box gives your feet ample space.
Grüezi Sleeping Bags stands out with their innovative DownWool insulation that combines the excellent warmth and low weight of down with the moisture-wicking and temperature-regulating properties of wool. This patented blend allows the sleeping bag to maintain a comfortable microclimate, preventing you from getting too hot or too cold.
