Gruezi Bag Downwool 2.0 Sleeping Bags

What is DownWool?

DownWool® is the perfect combination of down and wool. This blend offers outstanding insulation and an exceptionally wide temperature comfort range – even in high humidity. This is made possible by the mechanical bonding of 70% RDS-certified down and 30% Alpine wool – a patent-pending, durable, and washable combination.

Grüezi Bag® sleeping bags with a DownWool® filling offer an optimal balance of insulation and weight.

The wool for DownWool or AlmWolle insulation comes from alpine pastures in Bavaria, Austria, and Switzerland.

Down: Best insulation performance

High-quality down offers excellent warmth with minimal weight. However, in high humidity (e.g., due to sweat or condensation), it clumps together and loses its insulating effect. This is where DownWool® 2.0 solves this problem.

The added wool keeps the down drier, as it can withstand absorbing up to 30% of its own weight in moisture and can release it to the outside. Even with 90% humidity, DownWool® remains insulating because the wool fibres stand up and increase bulking power by up to 30%.

In the latest DownWool® 2.0 blend, the wool takes on a down-like structure, resulting in even more loft and therefore insulation.

Wool: Natural moisture and temperature regulation

And there's more. Wool prevents evaporative cooling. It warms even when damp, neutralises odours, and creates a pleasantly balanced microclimate. This means your body needs less energy to regulate its temperature.

RDS certified: All DownWool® products use animal welfare-certified down (RDS-certified IDF-25-790130), mulesing-free sheep wool from Europe.

New DownWool 2.0 from spring 2026

With DownWool 2.0, Grüezi bag offers an even more powerful, sustainable insulation solution for demanding outdoor adventures.

The improved insulation performance of DownWool 2.0 is achieved through an additional production step in which the wool acquires a finer structure and significantly more loft. This allows the wool to trap more air, thus increasing the insulation performance while maintaining the same fill weight. DownWool 2.0 now achieves the warmth-to-weight ratio of pure down.

DownWool® and Down in Comparison

Grüezi bag® Sleeping Bag Key Features

Two-way autolock zipper: The zipper can be opened and closed from either end, inside or outside. The auto-lock prevents it from opening accidentally.

Anti-snag Zip and lined robust webbing: This makes it even easier to operate the zipper without pinching the outer fabric.

Foot ventilation system: The innovative zipper design allows your feet to rest comfortably on top of the sleeping bag and excess heat to escape.

Pre-shaped foot box: When lying down there is enough space in the sleeping bag to point your toes.

Pillow compartment: If you put a fleece jacket, for example, into the pillow compartment, the sleeping bag has a non-slip pillow.

Adjustable hood with Face Baffle: The thermal bulge adapts perfectly to the shape of your head. When it's cold, only a small hole remains open, reducing heat loss from the face.
