Montane Womens Torren Petrichor 3L Jacket Review - ''Excels when it comes to waterproofing and breathability.''

I was looking for a replacement for my 3-layer waterproof. I needed a lightweight, packable jacket, that is still durable enough to withstand severe winter conditions. Although not essential, I do like to have many features on a jacket, and this jacket has them all; a fully adjustable hood with a stiffened peak, pit zips, Velcro closures on the cuffs and a cinchable hem.

The first thing I noticed when trying on this jacket, was the comfortable fit and the room in the sleeves. I tend to wear waterproofs over my down jackets; depending on the unpredictable British weather, I can wear my thinner down jacket one day and the bulker winter jacket the next; and this waterproof can accommodate both jackets! I did find the sleeves to be a tad longer than other waterproofs, but the Velcro on the cuffs did stop this being any sort of issue. The hood, being helmet compatible, was too big at first as it wasn’t worn alongside a helmet, but with a few adjustments with the toggles at the front and on the back and I managed a snug fit.

The Montane Torren seems to fit in the middle in terms of weight and durability but excels when it comes to waterproofing and breathability. The rain beads off the jacket, yet allows air flow, so there’s no sweat build up issues. This is the first time that Montane’s new Petrichor waterproof technology has been used to help reduce the impact of PFC/PCAS in our environment, something all outdoor clothing manufacturers are working hard towards. Despite the change in materials and technologies, the jacket still has a hydrostatic head rating of 20,000 and breathability rating of RET <7.

I was looking for an all year-round waterproof, and I’ve managed to find it in the Montane Torren Jacket.
