Haglofs LIM Comp Hood Review - ''It’s my go-to insulating layer for all of my outdoor pursuits''

The L.I.M (Less Is More) range from Haglofs, it is all about saving weight without compromising performance. So when it came to choosing a mid-layer for my 2 week trip across Scotland I was set from the start on the new L.I.M Mid Comp Hood. Wanting something close fitting to work with a layering system, and thinking I would be in my wet weather gear for long spells of the trip, I needed something very breathable and also fast drying should I get caught in a sudden downpour, the Mid Comp ticked all my boxes.
This is a well-fitted technical hoody, made from Tecnostretch, a lightweight 4-way stretch fleece material, that facilitates a huge amount of movement and stretch, without being constrictive. Double layered cuffs, that also incorporates thumb loops, cinch the fleece around the wrists, which still allows some air flow but keeps the heat in when you need it. The brushed grid backer of the internal material feels nice against bare skin. The grid-backed cloth is designed to minimize the surface area of the cloth that actually touches the skin, this doesn’t compromise on warmth but vastly improves how quickly sweat can evaporate.
It only has one pocket, a zippable chest pocket, which is mesh backed, again this helps with ventilation but seems on the stingy side. I appreciate the L.I.M mentality of shedding grams but I would like somewhere to warm my hand or stash my mobile phone, especially around camp in the evening. This is my only real flaw with the fleece though.
The hood is excellent, a tight fit that would easily fit under a helmet if you are using one. The hood does a good job of protecting from the wind, and also fits well over a hat. I wore this fleece every day on my 2-week trip, and has seen continuous use since getting back, it’s my go-to insulating layer for all of my outdoor pursuits including going to the shops.
