WHO WE ARE

Pioneers at heart, Primus have the ambition to give outdoor lovers like us the freedom to explore. We do this by offering great products and making it possible to discover all kinds of adventures - because we believe that every day is a potential adventure.

Big or small, we believe every adventure starts with a good meal. Food fuels our bodies and food inspires our imagination. That's why we've dedicated more than 130 years to designing and perfecting outdoor cooking gear for adventures of every size.

At Primus, we are a small team of people who share the same beliefs and work diligently to achieve our ambitions.

130 YEARS OF PRIMUS HISTORY

It all started in a small blacksmith workshop in central Stockholm back in 1892, when F.W. Lindqvist and J.V. Svenson created the world’s first soot-free kerosene stove! As it was the first, they decided to call it Primus (meaning first). The name became synonymous with reliable stoves and the stoves became the primary choice for people heading off on both first ascents and demanding expeditions.

RESPONSIBILITY & SUSTAINABILITY

We know that our customers expect the highest product quality. Equipment that keeps its promise even under extreme conditions and accessories that will last a lifetime on every tour. That's why we invest a significant proportion of our turnover in our own research and development every year. This allows us to revolutionise the technical possibilities in the field of outdoor cooking step by step.

Sustainable Innovations

Since the company was founded, our aim has been to produce efficient stoves that not only last a lifetime (or longer), but also have as little impact on people and nature as possible. You shouldn't skimp when it comes to producing a product that is meant to last for several generations. At Primus, we make no compromises - and no detail is left to chance. That's why every Primus stove goes through three pairs of hands before it is finally assembled. Our gas lamps and our expedition and trekking stoves are subjected to a final test before leaving the factory. This means you can be sure that your new stove will work perfectly and can be used reliably for many years.

Our production philosophy at Primus is to produce products that reduce the need to buy a new product. The longer the lifespan of a Primus product, the lower the impact on the climate.

Long-Term Sustainable Initiatives

Our vision is to set a new standard for outdoor cooking. We strive to make every adventure even more sustainable - through efficient, recyclable and environmentally friendly materials.

Spare Parts & Recycleable Materials

A Primus stove will be subjected to a lot of stress over its lifetime, so we design our stoves to be easy to repair. The majority of stoves have replaceable parts, and we always have spare parts for older products in stock. This makes replacing worn parts as easy as possible, extending the life of your Primus product even further. Even on the day a Primus stove retires, its materials are intended to be recycled and continue to exist.

Positive Climate Contribution

Our long-term goal is to develop a cooker with a positive climate contribution. In the meantime, we strive to make our cookers as energy efficient as possible.

Renewable Fuel

Our long-term goal is to implement renewable fuels and phase out fossil fuels and fossil-based plastics.

CONSIDERATIONS ON OUR MATERIALS

We place great importance on solid craftsmanship and small-batch production, focusing on carefully selected materials where quality takes priority over cost. As a result, we are constantly finding ways to incorporate environmentally friendly materials into new and existing products. This means that we use materials with a long lifespan, in relation to the extreme conditions and uses they must withstand.

We are passionate about true craftsmanship and small batch production. We choose materials carefully and focus on quality rather than the cheapest alternative. Therefore, we always find ways to incorporate environmentally friendly materials into new and existing products. This means that we use materials that will last a long time, taking into account the extreme conditions they will be exposed to.

The pillars of our production are flawless function and the longest possible product lifespan. Choosing the right material is crucial for this. Even when the time comes for a Primus stove to be retired, its materials should still be able to be used. For this reason, we develop products from pure materials that can be disassembled and recycled.

MATERIAL RECYCLING

Metal Recycling - For most metals, recycling is far more cost-effective and energy-efficient than producing new. In general, recycling does not degrade quality and a material can be recycled again and again. This is why most scrap metal is recycled today. Manufacturing new metal is linked to increased market demand. Therefore, there is no environmental benefit in trying to increase the recycled content of a single product to make it 'greener', as this would mean that another product would contain a lower recycled content, which would in turn increase transport.

In addition, it is important to remember that the materials that make up a product can be easily separated so that the different metals can be recycled.

Stainless Steel - Today, 90% of the material is recycled worldwide. On average, a stainless steel product consists of 60% recycled materials. Recycling steel requires around 75% less energy than producing a new product.

Aluminium - It is one of the most abundant elements, but it requires a lot of energy to produce. Fortunately,  95-98% of all aluminium is recyclable,  and recycling only requires about 5% of the energy compared to producing new aluminium.

Cardboard - Around half of our packaging is FSC-certified. This means that the entire manufacturing process and the material are fully traceable. The other half of the packaging is made from recycled paper.

We are continually working to reduce the amount of packaging material for our products. This is always an act of balance, as packaging is there to protect the products during transport - and too little protection or unsuitable packaging increases the risk of transport damage, which is an even greater waste of resources.
