A lightweight, long-handled spoon built for deep food pouches and hot camp pots.
Primus says:
The Long-Handled Spoon offers an extended handle to a standard eating spoon that is useful when cooking on a hike or in the backcountry. The long handle ensures that fingers are safely away from the boiling liquids when you stir the pot or helps ensure you get everything out of the freeze-dried food package.
The spoon itself is made of a single piece of high-strength, hard-anodized aluminum that will withstand the harshest environments and packing situations. The angle and shape of the spoon makes eating on the trail easy. This is the perfect choice for those that are looking for lightweight, versatile cooking and eating tool.
Our Verdict
The Primus Aluminium Long Handle Spoon is a simple but well-executed bit of kit for trail meals. At 18 grams, it’s hardly noticeable in the pack, and the extended 225-millimetre handle is just right for stirring boiling water or digging into tall dehydrated meal bags without burning your fingers.
The hard-anodised aluminium shaft feels solid, and the angled bowl makes it easy to eat from awkward packaging. I found the spoon end a little on the shallow side for bigger bites, but it has a surprisingly good mouth feel – smooth and nicely shaped, with none of the sharp edges you sometimes get with metal utensils. It’s also gentle on pots and easy to clean.
