The Abisko Lite is a great tent for solo expeditions all year round. The classic, single pole design uses strong, durable materials and provides plenty of weather protection in a surprisingly lightweight and compact package.
Fjällräven says:
Compact and stable tunnel tent for solo trekkers who like to travel with a smaller backpack. One main pole and strong corner poles in aluminium give generous head height and space over the feet. A comfortable, reliable and lightweight trekking companion when you want to travel alone. The flysheet is made from Fjällräven’s new high-performance nylon and an innovative construction that combines two different fabric weights giving excellent strength despite low weight. The vestibule is spacious for a one-man tent and there is plenty of room for gear. The flysheet and inner tent are connected, making handling easy and protecting the inner tent from rain while pitching. It is also possible to use double tent poles (an accessory) when using the tent in exposed conditions. Ventilation is excellent with three openings, positioned both high and low, which can be completely closed if needed. For really good airflow in warm conditions, the flysheet door can be rolled up to half way and fastened in place with an auto-lock that won’t let the zipper “creep” in strong winds. All openings, including the inner tent door, are covered in a fine mesh that keeps out even the smallest, barely visible insects. Clothesline plus mesh pockets in the inner tent make it easy to dry gear and keep organised. Just like all of Fjällräven’s tents, Abisko Lite 1 is made entirely without PVC plastic and toxic flame retardants, and its impregnation is fluorocarbon free.
Our Verdict
Fjallraven's Abisko Lite 1 Tent is another great example of a lightweight tent capable of standing up to the challenges of four season camping from the Abisko range. The details in the design, materials used and quality of construction result in a fantastic tent. The Abisko uses a traditional tunnel design for a solo tent with a single main pole so it is easy to put up and with the inner already attached this can be done very quickly. You don't need much space for this tent as the footprint is ideal for solo campers pitching up almost anywhere.
The quality of the fly, floor, inner and every other part of the tent is obvious and there are so many nice design features that make it more practical or more durable and are not just gimmicks. The tent uses top quality DAC poles that balance weight and strength really well. The fabrics used also balance weight and durability with tougher 40D fabric on the floor and lower parts of the fly sheet and 20D fly and mesh. The tunnel tent design is a classic and it stands up to challenging weather really well. There is a pleasing amount of internal space and a decent vestibule for storing kit.
