Our Verdict
fleece feels soft inside and out, while the relaxed, straight-sided cut leaves enough room for a base layer underneath. At 435g (Medium), it is heavier and bulkier than a technical hiking fleece, but the deep pile provides noticeably more warmth when standing around camp or heading out on an easy walk.
The long half-zip makes it easier to pull on and provides some welcome ventilation, although the thick fleece can still become warm during sustained climbing.
The pocket layout is particularly well judged. A zipped chest pocket keeps smaller valuables separate, while the dual-entry marsupial pocket provides secure handwarming space without leaving loose openings at the sides.
