A classic trekking-pole shelter with the updates it needed most

ClearSkies™
ClearSkies™ is our next-generation shelter material, built for lightweight strength and dependable weather protection. It combines 15D recycled Robic nylon with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid for exceptional durability and tear resistance. A 1200mm advanced silicone and durable PU coating creates a fully sealed barrier, delivering 4000+ mm water resistance while maintaining a lightweight design. In testing, when compared to our previous fabric, it is 35% stronger in tensile strength and 2.35 times more water resistant.
Behind The Fabric Design
- Nylon Base Fabric: Nylon offers exceptional strength for its weight, allowing us to keep the fabric lightweight without sacrificing durability.
- Ripstop Reinforcement: A ripstop weave improves tear resistance and structural stability. The ripstop grid uses dope-dyed yarn, which increases strength while improving UV resistance and long-term color stability.
- Waterproof Silicone Face Coating: Our proprietary silicone coating fully seals the fabric surface for true waterproof protection—preventing water penetration, not just repelling it.
- Durable Back Coating: A specialized PU back coating boosts tear strength and abrasion resistance while performing exceptionally well in harsh environments with prolonged rain, humidity, and heat.
- Recycled & PFAS-Free: Made with recycled fabrics and designed without intentionally added PFAS, reducing environmental impact while maintaining high performance.
Our Verdict
The 2026 Gossamer Gear The Two Tent keeps the same basic appeal as before: very low weight, a simple trekking-pole pitch and enough space to work as either a two-person shelter or a roomy solo tent. At 798g excluding pegs and bags, it is still extremely light, even though the updated version is 114g heavier.
That extra weight looks well spent. The new Custom ClearSkies 15D recycled Robic fabric, with its 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid, gives the tent a tougher and more weather-resistant feel on paper than the previous fabric. I would still treat it as an ultralight shelter, but the material update is meaningful.
The other big improvement is ventilation. Condensation has always been a compromise with single-wall shelters, and the new roof vents directly address it. You still need to pitch carefully and manage airflow, especially in damp UK conditions, but the vents make the design more practical than before.
The increased headroom makes the tent feel a little less cramped inside, while the new Fritsch Hitch guyline system helps tension the inner and pull the floor taut without needing to peg out all four corners separately.
For two people, the dual doors and vestibules are the best part of the layout, giving each person their own entrance and gear space. It is still not a shelter for two wide pads, which is disappointing, but two regular mats should work well.
For backpackers wanting a very light shelter with more weather-focused updates, this is a strong step forward.
