Our Verdict
The Lightline remains a substantial winter down jacket, with 296g of 700-fill-power duck down in a Large and 771g in a Medium. I think its strength is straightforward warmth rather than chasing the lowest possible weight, and the 40D DRILITE Loft shell gives it a tougher, more protective feel than many lightweight down jackets.
The removable insulated hood, two-way front zip and adjustable cuffs all suit proper winter use, while the generous fit leaves room for layering underneath. I also like that the design has stayed relatively simple, with two hand-warmer pockets and an internal zipped pocket rather than unnecessary extras.
One thing to note is that the down isn't hydrophobic, so I would take extra care to keep it protected in prolonged damp conditions.
