Our Verdict
At 188g (Medium), the Patagonia Capilene Thermal Weight Crew provides plenty of warmth for its weight while remaining well suited to active use. The Polartec Power Grid fabric has a smooth outer face and lofted grid interior, helping trap warmth without feeling overly bulky beneath other layers.
The close fit keeps moisture management effective, while the offset shoulder seams, underarm gussets and low-bulk construction help reduce rubbing beneath a rucksack and keep movement unrestricted.
I also like the thumb loops, which keep the sleeves secure and add a little extra hand coverage. The simple crew-neck design keeps bulk to a minimum and sits neatly beneath additional layers.
