Our Verdict
Weighing just 615 grams The Pajak XC3 Ultralight 45L Rucksack is an impressive choice for hikers prioritising weight savings and functionality.
One of the XC3's most intriguing features is its innovative roll-top closure. This design enhances waterproofing and provides a unique way to safeguard your gear from the elements. It may take a little time to adjust to this design, particularly if you have experience with roll-top closure bags. Instinctively, I wanted to roll the bag down as much as possible to compress it. However, the XC3 only requires a single roll of the top, followed by compression using the side buckles.
While the XC3 is engineered for minimalism, it doesn’t compromise comfort. The XC3 boasts large, well-padded shoulder straps that distribute weight evenly and reduce strain, making it comfortable to carry even when fully loaded. The pack includes side compression straps that help stabilise your gear and prevent shifting.
One area where the XC3 could improve is the size of its water bottle pockets. While they are the perfect size for your standard 1L to 2L bottle, I like a little more room in my water bottle pockets for a trowel, filter, first aid kit, etc., especially on a multiday trip. This is, however, a slight nip pick. Nonetheless, the pack’s elasticised Power Mesh front pocket swallows gear and has a handy push-button closure.
The XC3 is also designed with sustainability in mind. It features components made from upcycled ski base scraps, adding an eco-friendly touch to its high-performance design and contributing to reducing waste and environmental impact. This commitment to environmental responsibility is a significant bonus for eco-conscious trekkers.
