Our Verdict
The Montbell Torrent Flier Jacket is a stripped-back shell that excels in active use. At 161g (UK12), it feels featherlight without sacrificing functionality. The fit is true to size and allows for smooth layering, while the articulated cut gives great freedom of movement. Breathability is a standout, rated at 50,000 g/m²/24 hrs, the SUPER DRY-TEC fabric lives up to the name. The hood adjusts neatly and stays in place without limiting visibility. Although there are no hand pockets, the single chest pocket is accessible under a harness or pack. The fabric is thin, so a little care is needed, but it holds up well to repeated use. If weight and breathability are your priority, this is one of the most capable jackets in its class.
