Durable lightweight Softshell Short that excel on rugged mountain terrain

Build using Durable GRANITE STRETCH, this lightweight softshell offers breathable wind protection. Waistband is carefully designed to sit comfortably under a hip belt or harness, whilst the refined fit including new "pre-active stance" patterning allow for new levels of freedom.
Our Verdict
At 265g (UK12), the Montane Tenacity Shorts are a robust option for hiking, scrambling and general mountain use in warmer conditions. The GRANITE Flex softshell fabric feels tougher than basic trail shorts, with enough stretch and recovery to make steep steps, scrambling and uneven ground feel natural rather than restrictive. I like the zipped pocket layout, with secure hand pockets, a lateral thigh pocket, and a rear pocket that provides useful storage without turning them into bulky cargo shorts.
The 11-inch inseam gives decent coverage, while the low-profile waistband sits neatly under a pack or harness. I find the integrated belt can slip at times, and I would prefer external belt loops, so I can swap it for one I already use. Best for walkers and scramblers wanting protective, stretchy shorts for mountain days.
