Our Verdict
The latest Tempest 33 builds on a trusted platform with an improved back panel, updated materials, and an even better fit. Weighing 1181g, it’s well-suited for fast day hikes, multi-sport use, or streamlined overnight trips. The injection-moulded AirScape back panel holds its shape while flexing naturally with movement, offering excellent support without compromising breathability.
The women’s specific fit is excellent, with narrower shoulder straps, a shorter back length, and a contoured hipbelt that sits comfortably without digging in. The new BioStretch harness and hipbelt wrap the body closely, providing stability on technical ground while remaining flexible enough for active use. The torso adjustment system is easy to fine-tune on the move and helps ensure a dialled-in fit.
Storage is efficient and practical — the fixed lid has internal and external pockets, the large front stretch panel swallows layers or wet kit, and the side stretch pockets are ideal for bottles, though fully cinched compression straps can limit water bottle access. I liked the integrated “Stow-on-the-Go” trekking pole carry system, though there’s no included rain cover.
