Our Verdict
At 84g (UK12), the Patagonia Capilene Lightweight Bottoms are the lightest synthetic leggings we stock. The thin recycled-polyester fabric feels smooth against the skin and layers easily beneath walking or waterproof trousers without bunching.
Their real strength is moisture management. The fabric suits fast-moving winter walkers and backpackers who find conventional thermals too warm, while the low-bulk seams, gusseted crotch and soft waistband help maintain comfort over longer periods.
Primarily, though, I would use them as pyjama bottoms. They are comfortable to sleep in, regulate heat well and add very little weight or bulk to a pack. They provide only modest insulation, so they are less suited to cold, inactive winter use, but as lightweight sleepwear or a fast-drying spare layer, they make a lot of sense.
