Our Verdict
At 405g (UK 12), the Patagonia Women’s Better Sweater 1/4 Zip is substantial, with a soft interior and knitted outer face that feels closer to a casual jumper than a technical midlayer. The shaped cut and raglan sleeves give it a neat fit, while the quarter-length zip provides useful ventilation without changing its clean appearance.
It provides plenty of warmth for gentle walks, travel and cool evenings, but the dense fabric can feel clammy during sustained climbs. It is also bulky to pack, and the slim arms may feel restrictive over thicker layers.
I see it working best as an everyday fleece that can handle easy walks and campsite use.
