Voss 5 ULW tarp is one of the world’s lightest portable shelters. Although the flysheet weight is only 170 grams, no compromises have been made in regards to functionality. It has a total of 8 attachment points; one at each corner, one centered on each edge, Voss 5 ULW comes with 6 removable guy lines, complete with guy line sliders and aluminium Nordisk hooks for fast and easy setup. All together, the Voss 5 ULW can selectively be used at a race weight of 170g or with 2 guy lines at 190g or fully equipped has a total weight of only 240 grams and an absolute minimal pack size.
Our Verdict
The Voss 5 ULW Tarp from Nordisk is a top quality tarp that's amazingly versatile for shelter. There are a multitude of points to peg, pole of guy so you can get the best coverage for the conditions. There are 8 guy lines pre-attached which is awesome for straight out the bag use. The storage bag has some ideas drawn on for different way to pitch the tarp and this helps with understanding just how versatile it is. The main points are really well reinforced and have pockets for poles to sit in making it much easier to put up quickly or in challenging conditions.
The Voss 5 gets it's name from the 5m2 area it covers and it has certainly been big enough for outings with a few friends as a communal area, shelter from the sun and rain, along with it making a great usable space when in a bivy. This uses SI fabric which means that it is nylon treated with silicone on both sides. This means that it is much lighter and stronger but it is a lot more expensive than PU treated tarps.
