Our Verdict
At 300g per UK 8 shoe, the Topo Athletic Ultraventure 5 keeps the same 5mm drop and 35/30mm stack height as before, but gets a new “zippier” ZipFoam midsole that feels a little livelier underfoot, along with a more durable mesh upper.
For me, the fit remains one of the strongest reasons to choose it. There is plenty of room for your toes to splay, while the heel and midfoot still feel secure rather than overly wide.
The Vibram XS Trek outsole is deliberately less aggressive, which suits the road-to-trail character well. I’d use it for long-distance paths, gravel and mixed surfaces rather than steep mud or technical mountain terrain.
