Our Verdict
The Osprey Transporter Gear Tote 28L is fantastic for post-hike gear dumps, carrying gear to basecamp and last-minute supply runs. It stands upright on its own, making loading and unloading far easier than a floppy bag, and the wide opening is generous. At 522g, it’s not the lightest tote, but you’re getting structure, water-resistant fabric, and enough reinforcement to carry heavy loads without twisting or sagging.
The internal compression straps are a nice touch when securing bulkier items, and the front pocket handles keys, tape, and snacks without getting lost in the main space. The included change mat doubles as a lid or base support—handy at muddy trailheads or sandy campsites. I’d prefer a zip closure for complete security, but the open-top access has advantages when moving quickly.
