Our Verdict
The Jetboil TrailCook 1.2L feels like a deliberate shift away from the brand's traditional focus on simply boiling water. While it remains fast and fuel-efficient, the wider ceramic-coated pot and noticeably improved simmer control make it far better suited to preparing actual meals rather than just rehydrating them. Stirring is easier, heat distribution feels more controlled, and the larger 1.2-litre capacity offers useful flexibility for one or two people.
I particularly like the turn-and-click ignition and the secure pot support system, both of which make the stove feel intuitive to use. Everything nests neatly inside the pot when it's time to pack away, helping keep the overall system compact and organised.
The ceramic coating does benefit from a little care during packing and cleaning, but that feels like a reasonable trade-off for the improved cooking performance. For backpackers who enjoy cooking in camp, this is one of Jetboil's most interesting stove systems in years.
