Our Verdict
The Timp 6 Mid GTX weighs 343g per shoe and builds around a cushioned, protective platform suited to wet and mixed conditions. Altra’s signature wide toe box provides plenty of room for a natural foot splay, while the midfoot holds securely once laced in. The mid-cut design adds a bit more structure around the ankle without feeling restrictive.
Underfoot, the cushioning is balanced with a slightly responsive feel that works well over longer days on the trail. The Vibram Megagrip outsole delivers reliable traction on wet rock, mud and loose ground, giving consistent confidence as conditions change. The Gore-Tex lining keeps water out effectively, making it well-suited to damp terrain and poor weather, with the expected trade-off of reduced breathability in milder conditions. The upper feels durable and supportive, and overall it works well for longer distances where comfort, grip and protection are the priority.
