The Terra XT Pants are our most rugged technical mountain pants, designed for mountaineering, scrambling and everything in-between. Boasting a comprehensive feature set to compliment the tried and tested Granite and Granite® Hydro fabrics, the Terra XT Pants are light weight whilst still retaining their robustness and versatility.
Our Verdict
The Montane Terra XT Pants are designed for serious mountain use. They offer exceptional durability without compromising on flexibility or comfort. Built from rugged Granite and Granite Hydro fabrics, these trousers provide excellent abrasion resistance while remaining light enough for high-output activities like scrambling and mountaineering.
The Terra XT’s key features include reinforced knees, seat, and instep for added toughness in high-wear areas and mesh-lined zip vents on the sides for temperature control during intense ascents, something I always look for. The pre-articulated knees and gusseted crotch ensure unrestricted movement, making them ideal for technical climbs. With multiple YKK-zippered pockets, including deep thigh pockets, the trousers provide plenty of storage for essentials, while the press-stud ankle adjustment and integrated gaiter hook add versatility for varying terrain. A microfleece-lined waistband, which adds a lot of comfort, and a removable webbing belt offer all-day comfort and a secure fit.
Weighing 670g for a medium size, they are robust yet reasonably light for multi-day mountain expeditions. With thoughtful features like brace compatibility and a durable water-repellent coating, these trousers are built to perform in tough conditions.
