If you are in need of protection from the wind for emergencies then the Tachyon Pants are a great option. Simple, ultra lightweight and highly effective.

The Tachyon Wind Series has been redesigned to significantly increase breathability without sacrificing its wind blocking performance. With the new fabric, we have manipulated the weave and how we process the material to expertly balance its ability to release built up humidity inside the pants, yet still block wind. The new 7-denier nylon fabric is coated with Montbell's POLKATEX® durable water repellent for shedding light precipitation. The redesigned Tachyon Pants are what we consider an exceptional wind shell pant with improved comfort due to its ability to breathe.
Our Verdict
Montbell's Tachyon Pants weigh in at just 54g and are ideal for an emergency layer to give you some protection form the wind. The 7D fabric allows the weight to be as low as possible without sacrificing the wind blocking capabilities. They are surprisingly breathable and are treated with a decent DWR for shedding light rain if conditions change quickly. Obviously, at 7D durability can be an issue if you are going to sit on hard, rough surfaces or walk through thick vegetation like heather.
The simple design with an elasticated drawstring waist, internal stow pocket and reflective details all allow the weight to stay at an impressive minimum. The legs are not tapered so can feel a bit wide and flappy in strong winds, particularly if you are wearing shorts.
