A softer, more energetic update to a modern trail-running staple.
Hoka says:
Amping up the energy return with a new SCF midsole, the GOAT is more responsive than ever. This meticulously considered update keeps the same trusted fit and traction while refining the heel collar for comfort and adding a gaiter integration to help fend off debris. Injected with new tech, the Speedgoat franchise cements its status as the cult-favorite all-day trail crusher.
Our Verdict
The Speedgoat 7 builds on one of the best-known trail shoes around, but the move to a supercritical EVA midsole makes this version feel noticeably smoother and more responsive underfoot. At 262g per shoe (UK8), it still balances long-distance cushioning with surprisingly solid grip from the Vibram Megagrip outsole. The updated upper also feels more secure through the midfoot, while the revised heel collar and integrated gaiter attachment are sensible refinements.
The fit still leans slightly narrow in the toe box, especially once feet swell on longer days, so I would pay attention to sizing and potentially size up if on the cusp. Best suited to trail runners and lightweight backpackers wanting comfort and grip over long mixed-terrain days.
