Our Verdict
The OMM Sonic Vest is designed for those who want maximum wind protection without excess weight. At just 40g (Medium), it’s one of the lightest windproof layers available, using the brand’s PointZero fabric for a balance of wind resistance and breathability. The fabric’s DWR treatment sheds drizzle effectively, though it isn’t intended for sustained wet conditions.
The cut is slim and athletic, ideal for layering over a base layer or under a shell. Elasticated arm openings and a pre-tensioned hem keep it secure during high-movement activity, and the offset shoulder seams help prevent rubbing when wearing a pack. The collar doubles as a stuff pocket, allowing the vest to pack down to almost nothing.
Comfort is excellent for such a thin layer, with good mobility and no noticeable rustling or stiffness. Durability is reasonable for the weight, provided it’s kept away from rough brush or abrasive straps. For trail running, mountain training or fast hiking in breezy conditions, the Sonic Vest is a finely tuned piece of kit that does exactly what it promises: fast, simple, wind protection.
