Warmer active insulation for colder, more exposed days
Montane says:
This ultimate lightweight breathable thermal regulating hoodie for cold conditions uses PRIMALOFT® Gold Active Vent insulation that works alongside our highly breathable FEATHERLITE™ Air fabric to trap warmth and resist wind whilst also allowing moisture to flow freely away from the body. Zoned insulation weights with 80g throughout the body, for core body warmth and protection. 60g is positioned under the arms, side panels and hood to reduce bulk, increase comfort and freedom of movement. Improved patterning and built in pre-articulation, mechanical stretch of the FEATHERLITE™ Air fabric and 4-way stretch of the PRIMALOFT® Gold Active Vent insulation provides an uncompromised fit and freedom of movement, making this hoodie a perfect mid-layer or standalone piece for the active user in cold conditions.
Our Verdict
The Sirocco XT takes the standard Sirocco's breathable active-insulation concept and shifts it toward colder conditions. It uses 80g/m² PrimaLoft Gold Active Vent through the body, with lighter 60g/m² insulation under the arms, sides and hood to reduce bulk and help regulate heat.
The big difference for me is that Montane has replaced the fleece side and underarm panels of the standard Sirocco with insulation, giving more consistent warmth and wind protection. The trade-off is less outright ventilation and a higher weight at 422g (Medium). The Regular Fit also gives more room for layering, while the adjustable hood, two-way zip and chest pocket make it better suited to longer mountain days.
I think this makes more sense for cold-weather walking and mountaineering than high-output running. It is still active insulation, but with noticeably more emphasis on protection and warmth.
