The Raintower is a dependable mountain shell that’s been built for sudden storms and fast-paced days. Using lightweight 2.5-layer DRILITE 40D fabric, it’s fully waterproof, packable, and breathable, with pit zips for further ventilation on long ascents. A protective Mountain Hood is easily adjusted on the move and makes the difference when the weather really turns.
The Raintower is designed for rapidly changing weather when weight and pack size count, but protection can’t be compromised.
Our Verdict
At 323g (Medium), the Raintower 2.5L Jacket is a lightweight waterproof shell with more mountain features than the weight suggests. The DRILITE 40D fabric gives solid rain protection in a packable form, while the 2.5-layer construction keeps bulk down compared with a heavier 3L shell.
I like the feature set here. The fully adjustable Mountain Hood provides useful coverage in poor weather, and the pit zips make a real difference on long climbs. The Alpine fit and articulated sleeves also help it move well over layers without feeling baggy.
The two large zipped pockets, inner pocket and adjustable cuffs make it practical for hill use. It will not match a 3-layer jacket for long-term durability, but it works well for backpacking, scrambling and fast-moving mountain days.
