UOG TOP PICK: Tough, protective, and built for exposure, the Rab Latok Mountain GTX Jacket offers uncompromising Gore-Tex Pro performance for harsh, wet conditions. A top pick for serious mountain walkers and trekkers.
Rab says:
Unflinching protection for hikers and adventurers requiring the best all-round performance for mountain missions in any weather. With dual weight, 3-layer GORE-TEX PRO, this waterproof jacket carefully balances abrasion resistance and low weight.
Rain-lashed inclines, technical trails, and heavy gear: the Latok Mountain GTX Jacket deals with it all. When you need breathability, durability and protection in equal measure, this versatile GORE-TEX Shell offers all-round performance for year-round mountain adventures. Built using 3-layer GORE-TEX PRO Product Technology with an innovative fluorocarbon-free ePE membrane, it has tougher fabric across the shoulders and sleeves for abrasion resistance from the repetitive rub of backpack straps.
Meanwhile a lighter weight fabric around your core gives greater mobility, breathability, and reduced bulk. Easily deflecting wind, rain, sleet, and snow while effectively managing moisture, this jacket is designed to keep you comfortable when your route gets steep and the weather gets wilder.
Our Verdict
At 405 g (Medium), this is a beast of a jacket, combining Gore-Tex Pro ePE with a dual-weight construction that features 80D reinforcements across the shoulders, hood, and sleeves, paired with a lighter 40D body fabric. The ePE membrane is Gore’s latest fluorocarbon-free version of Gore-Tex Pro, offering the same level of waterproof protection and durability with a reduced environmental footprint.
The fit is regular with excellent coverage at the hem and cuffs. Articulation through the arms allows full reach without the jacket lifting, and the slightly roomier cut makes layering straightforward. While the design is titled “Mountain Jacket”, it is not a climbing shell in the vertical sense. The hood is not helmet-compatible, which makes sense given its intended purpose as a trekking and mountain walking jacket rather than an alpine climbing piece.
Protection is outstanding in harsh wind and driving rain. Breathability is solid for a Pro shell, helped by large pit zips and a two-way main zip for venting. The heavier face fabrics bring long-term resilience, resisting abrasion from pack straps and rough ground.
For walkers and trekkers wanting uncompromising Gore-Tex Pro weatherproofing without technical climbing features, the Latok Mountain is a well-judged, highly protective option that feels ready for the worst the British hills can throw at it.
