Our Verdict
Rab’s Baltoro Gloves sit comfortably between dexterity and insulation, providing dependable warmth for winter climbing and alpine hiking. At 173g (Medium), they use a combination of Matrix softshell fabric, PrimaLoft Gold insulation and a high-pile lining that together deliver solid thermal performance without bulk.
The pre-curved shape makes gripping poles or tools feel natural, and the leather palm provides confident handling in wet or icy conditions. Warmth is focused on the back of the hand, where insulation is thickest, while the palm remains more flexible for precision tasks. They dry quickly and shed water effectively, though in sustained wet weather, a fully waterproof glove would still be the safer choice.
The fit is close but not restrictive, with good articulation through the fingers. Breathability is moderate, performing best in cold, dry environments rather than during high-output activity. Reinforcements and stitching feel robust, and the gloves hold their shape well after repeated use.
