Pursuit 3 serves as the cushioned zero drop trail runner and hiker in the Topo Athletic line designed for use on technical trail. The Pursuit 3 is designed for the trail, designed with a cushioned zero drop, this trail shoe is built to be used in technical conditions.
A new midsole design improves the aesthetics of the shoe while maintaining a 28mm zero drop platform. Twinned with a Vibram Megagrip outsole delivering excellent traction and slip resistance on technical trail. Features our FKT insole, made using TPU beads the insole adds rebound underfoot and does not absorb water allowing for faster drainage after a water crossing.
Our Verdict
The Topo Athletic Pursuit 3 is a cushioned zero-drop trail shoe for runners and fast hikers who want toe room. The 28mm platform gives it a cushioned feel underfoot, while the 0mm drop keeps the heel and forefoot level for a more natural, stable stance. That lower-drop feel can load the calves and Achilles differently, so I’d build up gradually before taking them on a proper long hike but once you are used to them, that level platform can feel balanced and efficient over long distances.
I like the balance of room and security. The forefoot gives toes space to spread, but the midfoot and heel still feel controlled for rougher ground. The Vibram outsole is another clear strength, providing confident grip on mixed trails, wet paths, and softer terrain.
At 302g per UK8 shoe, it is not a stripped-back racer, but for zero-drop users wanting a stable shoe for trail running, fast hiking, and lightweight backpacking, it looks well-judged.
