Building on the Iconic Protium fleece family, the Protium CP hoodie builds on its dependable performance. THERMO GRID fabric offers lightweight warmth that is highly breathable, packable and quick drying. Low profile flat locked seams alongside hip belt compatible zipped hand pockets improve comfort and function with a pack, and the additional zipped chest pockets adds quick access storage.
Our Verdict
At 449g (Medium), the Montane Protium CP Hoodie is not the lightest fleece, but it earns its weight through comfort, warmth and a more practical pocket layout than a simple midlayer. The THERMO GRID fabric gives a good balance of warmth and breathability, with enough stretch to move easily under a pack or shell. I also like the smooth face and brushed-grid back, which help it feel comfortable without becoming bulky.
The real standout is the storage. The zipped hand pockets are positioned to work with a hip belt, while the bonded chest pocket gives quick access to small essentials. It is still a fleece, so it needs a shell when the wind picks up, but it makes a lot of sense for walkers wanting a warm, breathable midlayer with proper mountain-day practicality.
