Hestra says:
A sturdy warming liner glove with Primaloft Gold synthetic insulation that keeps hands warm in severe cold. Combines with a shell glove, such as Hestra’s Seam Sealed Mitt or Pull Over Mitt. Also practical as an extra liner, e.g. for the Army Leather Expedition Mitt, if you want to be able to swap liners over the course of the day. Primaloft Gold produces a down-like feel and binds a lot of insulating air while letting moisture escape.
Our Verdict
The Hestra Primaloft Extreme Liner Mitts are a top-tier option for extreme cold, offering impressive warmth without excessive weight. Packed with Primaloft Gold insulation, they create an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, with extra insulation on the backhand to trap heat where it's most needed. Made from water-resistant, windproof fabric, they do well at keeping out the elements, although they're best paired with a shell glove for maximum protection in wet or windy conditions.
While these mitts don’t include a cuff cinch, they function like a down jacket for your hands—ideal for slipping on when taking a break, trapping warmth without needing to be overly snug. The mitts' bulk somewhat reduces dexterity, so they’re best suited for low-movement periods rather than active tasks. Some might require a larger-sized shell glove to fit these liners comfortably.
These mitts are a warm, reliable layer for those needing serious insulation in challenging winter conditions.
