Our Verdict
At 136g, the Fire Maple Petrel Pour Over Kettle 350ml is a highly specialised piece of kit, but for its intended purpose, it works exceptionally well. The detachable gooseneck spout provides excellent control when pouring, making it easy to manage water flow for coffee brewing with far greater accuracy than a standard pot. The integrated heat exchanger also helps bring water to a boil quickly while maintaining efficient fuel use.
The compact design packs away neatly, and the measurement markings are particularly useful for judging water levels or measuring the correct amount for a hot drink. One practical tip from trail use is not to overtighten the threaded spout. The combination of heat expansion and rapid cooling can make it surprisingly difficult to remove afterwards.
The 350ml capacity is ideal for a mug of tea or coffee, but it can be limiting for some dehydrated meals. For solo drink preparation, however, it delivers exactly what it sets out to do.
