A relaxed, breathable shirt suited to warm-weather travel and camp use
Patagonia says:
Airy, everyday shirt built with lightweight 55% industrial hemp/45% organic cotton fabric for cool-wearing comfort in hot weather. Made in a Fair Trade Certified™ factory.
Our Verdict
The Patagonia Back Step Shirt uses a 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton blend, giving it a soft, airy feel that works well in hot conditions. At 196g (Medium), it is light enough for summer use, though clearly not designed as a technical layer.
Breathability is the standout feature. The open weave allows steady airflow, making it comfortable on the trail at an easy pace or while spending time in camp. It does not dry as quickly as synthetic shirts, so it feels less suited to high-output days.
The fit is relaxed without being baggy, with good freedom through the shoulders and chest. It wears naturally over longer periods and feels more like everyday clothing than a performance kit.
