Our Verdict
The Paiyu Down Jacket delivers expedition-level warmth with 269 g (Medium) of 700-fill-power duck down, in a dual-layer offset-baffle design that eliminates cold spots and improves loft retention. At 686 g (Medium), it is a substantial but highly protective jacket built for winter conditions. The Drilite Loft 40D outer is windproof and highly water-resistant, giving reliable weather protection without a bulky feel.
Fit is regular, with good coverage and freedom of movement. The hood has a hook-and-loop volume tab but no crown cinch. Two drawcords around the face can be adjusted while fully zipped, a detail that deserves praise but arguably should be standard. Hem drawcords adjust smoothly from either side, and the cuffs seal with hook-and-loop tabs that work well with gloves.
Inside are two large dump pockets for gloves or maps, which I always look for in any winter insulation piece. Warmth is excellent and evenly distributed, and the build feels robust, as one would expect from ME. The Paiyu is designed for cold, static or semi-active use rather than constant movement, offering impressive protection and durability for alpine and expedition environments.
