Our Verdict

The Patagonia Nano-Air Light Bottoms are an impressive addition to your winter layering system. These midlayer bottoms were designed with the active adventurer in mind. They offer a comfortable, slim fit that allows for a full range of movement without the bulk typically associated with insulated trousers.

The Nano-Air Light Bottoms excel in breathability and stretch, making them ideal for high-intensity activities in chilly conditions. Whether tackling steep climbs or setting a brisk pace on a winter hike, the 40g FullRange® insulation provides just the right amount of warmth without causing you to overheat. The recycled polyester shell is soft yet durable, and the added stretch panels in the cuffs are particularly effective for slipping the trousers over alpine boots or pushing them up when you need more ventilation.

The smooth, stretchy waistband is comfortable and unobtrusive under a harness, and the zippered thigh pocket is perfectly positioned to stay out of the way, even when fully geared up. Weighing in at just 259 grams for a medium size, these bottoms strike a perfect balance between lightweight and robust, with eco-friendly materials being a welcome bonus for those conscious of their environmental footprint.

These bottoms are not just about warmth; they’re about freedom of movement and thoughtful design that harmonises with the rest of your gear. The Nano-Air Light Bottoms are well worth the investment if you stay active through the colder months.
