The Couloir is durably waterproof for long days of mountaineering or skiing in harsh conditions. A water resistant Goatskin leather palm is tough enough for regular rope work and provides excellent grip on ice tools or poles.
Our Verdict
The Couloir Gore-Tex Gloves balance warmth and control impressively for their category. The goatskin palm is supple and provides a confident grip on poles or an ice axe, while the fleece-lined interior and Gore-Tex insert keep hands warm and dry in cold, mixed conditions. Dexterity is better than expected for a glove this protective, helped by a well-shaped fit and stretch panels that allow natural hand movement.
The materials feel durable and built to handle frequent rope work or rough surfaces without wear. I found the wrist closure easy to cinch and open one-handed, and the overall construction gives a reassuring sense of robustness. Regular care, such as leather conditioning, helps maintain performance over time.
For winter walking, climbing, and ski touring, the Couloir stands out as a capable, long-lasting choice that handles demanding cold-weather use with confidence. These would be my go-to if I were looking for an all-encompassing glove option rather than a layered glove system.
