Warm, weatherproof protection for exposed terrain
Montbell says:
Waterproof breathable SUPER DRY-TEC face fabric blocks out wind while the fleece lining delivers warmth. Equipped with earflaps that fasten under the chin in windy conditions and over the head when not needed. The brim can be flipped up to maintain upward visibility.
Our Verdict
The Montbell North Pole Cap provides reliable coverage in cold, windy, and damp mountain conditions without unnecessary bulk.
At 76 g (Medium), it combines a waterproof, windproof outer with a high-pile lining that effectively traps warmth. The short 5.5 cm brim offers good upward visibility, proper on steep ground, and the ear flaps fasten securely under the chin to seal out draughts. When not needed, they fold neatly over the head, keeping the profile low.
The fit feels precise, providing full coverage over the ears without feeling tight. Small perforations around the ear area allow sound to pass through clearly, while the high-pile fleece lining blocks any wind. Breathability is moderate, which suits the cap’s intended use in colder weather.
It is a simple, well-built winter cap that performs exactly as intended: windproof, warm, and reliable when the weather turns foul.
