Designed for high energy activities such as ski touring, fastpacking and ultra running where temperature regulation and protection is key. The lightweight, close fitting GRANITE STRETCH softshell fabric provides breathability and dexterity, combined with a suede leather palm, ideal for use with poles. When the temperature drops or the descent begins the PrimaLoft® insulated PERTEX® mitt can be pulled out to provide increased warmth and protection.
Our Verdict
At 62g (Medium), the Montane Switch Gloves are well-suited for high-output activities where hands heat up quickly but still require protection in sudden cold, and exposed ridgelines. The shell glove is slim and comfortable, featuring a suede palm that provides a secure grip on poles. When the temperature drops, the insulated mitt pulls over smoothly, giving an instant boost in warmth.
When not in use, the overmitt slides into a pocket on the cuff, creating a slight bulk, but it’s easy to get used to. The longer cuff seals out draughts effectively, though it can make checking a smartwatch awkward. The breathability of the shell is strong, and the mitt provides valuable extra protection in exposed weather conditions. For dynamic mountain use where flexibility and pack weight are crucial, this design strikes a clever balance between dexterity and warmth.
