The stories are true. We've taken the fabled performance of MICROspikes traction and transformed it into a fleet-footed, packable spirit of the steeps. Coming in at just under half the weight of the original, MICROspikes Ghost replaces steel chains with durable, lightweight TPU and introduces a lighter, high-performance TPR toe harness with increased packability. At the same time, it maintains an aggressive spike length and arrangement demanding outdoor adventures have come to rely on. MICROspikes Ghost is ideal for use on lightweight, flexible footwear such as trail runners or hiking shoes.
Our Verdict
The Kahtoola MICROspikes Ghost have replaced the old chain layout with a flexible TPU, reducing bulk while keeping the twelve 9 mm stainless steel points evenly distributed for optimal grip. The harness is also redesigned, using softer rubber at the toe for stretch and grip, and tougher elastomer; however, the heel is designed for durability, which helps it sit securely over both running shoes and boots.
Traction is excellent on winter trails, and fitting or removing them is quick, even with gloves. While the lighter build may not feel as indestructible as the older chain system, reinforced stress points inspire confidence. For fast and light movement over icy ground, they are a very capable option.
