Our Verdict
The Montane Malli Long Sleeve T-Shirt takes the company’s much-loved Dart base layer design and updates it with a core-spun Merino fabric. Fine 18.5 micron wool is wrapped around a nylon core, with a touch of elastane for stretch. The result is a fabric that feels soft, resists odour, and regulates temperature, yet holds its shape and lasts longer than pure Merino.
At 170g (Medium), it is light for a long-sleeved top but not flimsy. The trim cut is designed for active layering, and unlike the Dart, which I often find requires sizing up, the Malli has enough give to wear true to size. Flat merrow seams and stretch hems keep the fit neat and low profile under mid-layers, while raglan sleeves allow freedom of movement.
Moisture management is excellent: the wool blend wicks sweat without feeling clammy, and dries faster than expected for a Merino garment. After repeated use and washing, the fabric shows little sign of wear, with no obvious thinning or bobbling. For mountain layering or multi-day use, it strikes an exceptional balance between comfort, resilience, and packability.
