A proper backpacking chair without the usual weight penalty

When out on a multi-day trek, there’s nothing better than giving your legs a rest. That’s why we’ve designed our ultralight backpacking chair: The Lumen. Weighing in at a mere 648g trail weight (excluding the bag weight), you’ll have a comfortable seat when you need it and not even notice it in your pack when you’re trekking.
The nylon fabric with UHMWPE ripstops provides a comfortable seat whilst being extremely durable so it can withstand anything that could happen on the trail. We’ve also utilised shock-corded poles for a quick, intuitive setup – even in high winds.
Our Verdict
At 650g, the Terra Nova Lumen Chair sits in a really interesting place for me. It is light enough to consider for multi-day trips, packs down to just 34 × 10cm, and still has a 120kg load capacity.
The 7001 aluminium frame uses shock-corded poles, so setup is straightforward, while the 210D nylon seat is reinforced with UHMWPE ripstop rather than relying on an extremely light fabric. That makes the construction feel more substantial on paper without pushing the weight too far.
I also think the price is one of its biggest strengths. For a chair in this weight category, it costs considerably less than many other options.
