Our Verdict
The Kryos Down Pants combine 150 g (Large) of 800 fill-power goose down with a hybrid baffle layout that maximises loft in critical areas while maintaining good mobility. At 521 g (Medium), they feel reassuringly protective without restricting movement, helped by an active cut that accommodates high steps and harness use. The Drilite Loft shell is fully windproof, highly weather-resistant and uses a PFAS-free DWR, giving confidence in cold, exposed environments.
Full-length two-way side zips make venting and layering straightforward, while the semi-elasticated waist and brace attachment points add security. The cuffs are reinforced to resist abrasion from boots and crampons. Warmth is excellent for their weight, and they perform exceptionally well for static or low-intensity situations such as belays, summit camps and winter wild camps.
The build quality is outstanding, with precise stitching and durable materials that reflect Mountain Equipment’s alpine pedigree. Breathability is naturally limited, but these are specialist insulation trousers for extreme cold, not fast-paced movement. For severe winter or expedition use where reliable warmth and weather protection matter most, the Kryos Down Pants are an exceptional choice.
