Warm synthetic insulation with a down-like feel

The new and improved Icarus 3.0 Hoodie has updated materials and a new product build to balance durability and lightweight performance. PERTEX® QUANTUM offers windproof lightweight protection, whilst the lightweight and incredibly warm PRIMALOFT® RISE (loose fill) insulation maintains warmth in both dry and wet conditions. Essential features such as our Pivot hood system, adjustable hem and self sealing cuffs lock in warmth and ensure the cold in kept out. Our regular fit with improved patterning and articulation ensures freedom of movement and all day comfort. At only 490g this is a lightweight loose fill synthetic insulated hoodie that will keep you warm in cold changeable conditions, ideal for all mountain use.
Our Verdict
The Icarus Insulated Hoodie 3.0 uses PrimaLoft Silver RISE loose-fill insulation inside a 30D Pertex Quantum shell, giving it a down-like feel while keeping the better wet-weather performance of synthetic insulation. At 490g (Medium), I think it strikes a good balance between warmth, weather protection and weight.
For 2026, Montane has cut around 60g, moved to a tougher shell and added a proper adjustable Pivot hood. The new REACH construction also improves arm movement, which makes sense for climbing and general mountain use.
I like that this still feels like a proper warm synthetic jacket rather than an active insulation piece. The Pertex Quantum blocks wind well, while the loose-fill insulation gives good loft and remains useful if conditions turn damp.

- PERTEX® QUANTUM - A 30 Denier recycled nylon ripstop, fibreproof and windproof though a tightly woven structure and calendering process. Utilised for it's durability and it's ability to protect the insulation's warmth and loft. A non-fluorocarbon water repellent finish sheds light rain and snow to provide additional weather protection.
