Our Verdict
Outdoor Research's 2020 Gradient Beanie is a warm 100% boiled merino wool beanie. A soft fleecy head band increases comfort and reduces the itch factor. The performance of the natural merino wool is excellent. The properties that really shine through are the level of warmth, good breathability and temperature regulation combined with the high wicking nature that helps with moisture management. The simple coloured stripes look smart and give the hat a more versatile feel as it looks at home in the mountains or around town.
The hat isn't very stretchy and I fear it would be a tight fit for those with large heads. Otherwise this is a warm breathable and stylish beanie.
